Upstream and Midstream

The repercussions and the clean-up of a large oil spill can cost an operator into the billions of dollars. No other oil spill tracking equipment tracks oil more accurately than the Oil Spill Tracking Buoy.

Mitigate impact

In the unlikely event of an oil spill, the critical priority is tracking the trajectory and the extent of the spill to enable an effective and rapid emergency response. Advisian’s Oil Spill Tracking Buoy (OSTB) is designed to accurately track a surface oil spill as movement of the buoy is limited to the met-ocean conditions found at the air-sea interface and in the upper 0.5m of the water column. This is important because, like an oil spill, it means the OSTB is driven by water currents rather than wind.

Heavy-duty design

A proven heavy-duty design enabling 50m free-fall deployments enables the OSTB to be safely deployed from oil rigs, rig support vessels and helicopters.

Global tracking system

An impact-resistant global satellite tracking system permits the buoys to be tracked remotely from anywhere in the world. A dedicated web interface allows tracking of multiple OSTBs at once, enabling the end user to map the extent of the spill and calculate dispersion rates.

Plan and implement your response

Through our experience and examination of existing oil spill response systems and model validation exercises, multiple OSTBs deployed across a variety of locations during an oil spill incident (i.e. spill fronts and spill central points) enables the oil spill response team to effectively use this data to plan and implement their incident response.
